Amicus Therapeutics Inc. has priced Galafold (migalastat) at $315,000 per year, but this price is not usually what a patient will pay.
Amicus, the manufacturer of Galafold, has initiated the Amicus Assist program, a free service for patients and families to provide assistance for Galafold access. Patients can call the Amicus Assist case managers toll-free at 1-833-264-2872 Monday through Friday, from 8AM to 8PM ET.
Galafold is the first oral medicine available to treat adults with Fabry Disease. Patients with Fabry disease have a genetic change in the alpha-galactosidase A (GLA) enzyme. The genetic mutation leads to a buildup of globotriaosylceramide (GL-3) fat in blood vessels and organs leading to kidney and heart disease and early death.
Fabrazyme (agalsidase beta), from Sanofi Genzyme, is another medication used to treat Fabry disease. Fabrazyme is reported to cost roughly $340,000, but these costs can vary. Sanofi Genzyme also provides case managers to help patients understand insurance and cost issues with Fabrazyme.
