What drugs are contained in Consensi?
Consensi was a combination drug containing amlodipine besylate and celecoxib.
It was approved by the FDA in 2018, and discontinued in 2022.
Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker used for high blood pressure and celecoxib is a cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor, a type of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the treatment of pain associated with osteoarthritis.
Consensi was available in the following strengths:
- amlodipine 2.5 mg / celecoxib 200 mg
- amlodipine 5 mg / celecoxib 200 mg
- amlodipine 10 mg / celecoxib 200 mg.
How was Consensi used?
Consensi was given once daily.
It was intended to be a more convenient formulation to treat both high blood pressure and arthritis pain at the same time.
Why was Consensi discontinued?
On February 9, 2022, Purple Biotech Ltd. announced in a press release that the agreement with the U.S distributor for Consensi had been terminated. It was concluded that commercialization of Consensi was not likely to generate significant revenue and achieve profitability in the near term, so in order to reduce expenses involved in maintaining the product, Consensi would be discontinued.
The marketing end date for Consensi was July 27, 2022.
