Medically reviewed by drugclasses.com. Last updated on April 8, 2024.

I am 23 years old and pregnant in the 4th month. My doctor prescribed me ceftriaxone after I had taken Amoxil for 7 days for a kidney infection. Is my baby safe?

Official answer

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) considers ceftriaxone a pregnancy Category B medicine, which means that it has not been studied in pregnant women. However, when studied in pregnant animals, ceftriaxone showed no negative effects on unborn babies.

A pregnancy Category B medicine may be given to a pregnant woman if the health care provider believes that the benefits to the pregnant woman outweigh any possible risks to the unborn child.
