What drugs are contained in HIV treatment Juluca?
Juluca is a single-tablet, two-drug regimen of dolutegravir (Tivicay) and rilpivirine (Edurant) for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection.
- Dolutegravir is a HIV-1 integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI).
Dolutegravir is contained in Tivicay (dolutegravir), Dovato (dolutegravir and lamivudine), and Triumeq (abacavir, dolutegravir and lamivudine). - Rilpivirine is a HIV-1 non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI).
Rilpivirine is contained in Edurant (rilpivirine), Complera (emtricitabine, rilpivirine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate), Odefsey (emtricitabine, rilpivirine and tenofovir alafenamide), and Cabenuva (cabotegravir and rilpivirine).
Juluca is used in the treatment patients with virologically suppressed HIV-1 infection ((HIV-1 RNA less than 50 copies per mL) who have been on a stable medication regimen for at least six months, with no record of treatment failure and no resistance to the components of Juluca.
Juluca tablets are taken once daily with a meal.
Serious side effects include skin rash and allergic reactions, liver problems and depression or mood changes. Common side effects include diarrhea and headache.
